Hello Tomorrow! Hello Dubai xD

Hello guys!
How are you?!

I am great! I’m in Dubai!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

So… one week ago, I slept only one or two hours, and I woke up for the 3 hours ride to Lisbon with my family! We arrived early and went to breakfast in “Pasteis de Belรฉm”, as I told you about on the last post. So… at 11.20 am after that delicious breakfast I was at the airport to check in. One of the girls joining with me was already there. She was saying goodbye to her family while I went to another espresso with my family. Before that I was nervous thinking about the weigh of the baggage. I was with an allowance of 50 kg, but how to put your whole life in only 50 kg? I made an effort but still… I was with 4 kg extra… however the gentleman realized that I was leaving for live in Dubai and I didn’t pay any extra ๐Ÿ™‚ yeeeii!

I will not talk about how it was saying goodbye to my beautiful and fantastic family… sure you can all imagine… so I’m sorry about that… anyway… after the boarding gates I was already with two more people joining with me to this airline xD Two more architects.. so 3 in total! Three architects living the time of our lives in Dubai as cabin crew! Ahaha it could be a good blog in the future… :-p

I liked them since that moment… today I feel like I know them for ages… and I have been here only for one week! Everything is more intense when you’re living abroad with so many things happen…

So, about the flight!ย It took 7 hours and a half to get here. Once in my seat I felt chills just by listen the engines preparing for take off…it was amazing and I remember thinking “I will be listening this sound all the time in a couple of months”! xD

The crew was nice to us… once they heard that were new joiners on board, they invited us to the galley…
Onboard we discovered that was one more girl joining with us… so 5 portuguese in total joining on May 1st ๐Ÿ™‚ The crew took some pictures of us with the famous red hat on the galley… and talked with us about our fleet.. they were really nice ๐Ÿ˜‰

Meanwhile… I could discovery the ICE system when on my seat… and it is really a good entertainment system. I saw a movie… listened music (all kind of music is available…), and made a call for my new colleagues… on their seats. There is an option called :”call seat-to-seat” and I was messing with them already… ahahah :-p

So we arrived at Dubai around 1.30am, we wait for our papers and information for the first day of induction on sunday… and there we went for the Hotel Appartments…our temporary accommodation. ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  Outside the airport it was really hot… at 2.30am xD Imagine the temperature during the day… We arrived at the Hotel and checked in… my roommate for now is the portuguese architect..so for now I’m good! ๐Ÿ˜€

That was the first day… and I will tell you all about this incredible first week on next post ๐Ÿ˜‰ Just wait for it… ๐Ÿ˜‰
Thank you for reading… and if you have questions just contact me ๐Ÿ™‚

Today Is The Day ;)

So… today I’m writing to say “hello tomorrow”… hello Dubai! ๐Ÿ™‚ But before that… ๐Ÿ˜‰

After the Golden Call they send us an e-mail with access to the portal, where we can find our contract, specific information about the work, pre-medical exams: we must do it and submit them, include dental and vaccination forms… and after all that.. if you are healthy and without any conditions or other problems that could affect the work… you get the FINAL APPROVAL! Which is the advice to resign in your current job, and start preparing for take off! ๐Ÿ˜›

So I worked until April 12th, and left 3 weeks only to prepare everything and say goodbye to everyone. Also, my birthday was on April 15th, so I had birthday lunch and dinners as well. xD

It were a craaazy few weeks. Meanwhile on the portal they give you a pre-course manual: “PREPARE FOR TAKE-OFF” with some things about the company and aviation that you need to start learning. It’s very cool really.. ๐Ÿ™‚ Also you get to know your Induction Specialist.. a person that will support you and help you there in Dubai. Mine is a woman from Kenya… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now… after getting everything ready… packing, unpacking and packing again… ๐Ÿ˜› TODAY IS THE DAY! I’m moving to Dubai in a few hours.. whaaaaaat??

Let me tell you the most important thing that’s happen in this moment: MIX OF FEELINGS! On one side I’m feeling exited: new city, new country, new CONTINENT. New job, new career, new adventures.. On the other side… the friends… the family… grandparents… Daisy, and… HEโ™ฅ

It’s hard! It’s the most difficult thing in the world! And I will teach you a new thing. A word! From Portugal: SAUDADE! It’s a word that describes the felling of missing something or someone. It’s a word that not exist in another language besides Portuguese! And I will board that plane this afternoon with hope and excitement but also with SAUDADE! That is life!…

Sorry for the short post… but I really need to sleep a bit before I go to the airport in Lisbon (3 hours away by car). I just wanted to update you. And if you have questions about this last phase of the recruitment process and FA, please leave a comment and I will back to you soon as possible. ๐Ÿ™‚
My next post will be from Dubai people!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Keep fingers crossed for me! And for my friends who are reading this.. I love you!! I will wait for your visit in Dubai!

HELLO TOMORROW! Hello Dubai. Hello new home! ๐Ÿ™‚

The Recruitment Process * Golden Call

Hello again!

As promised, here I am writing about the golden moment, the moment everyone awaits impatiently: the GOLDEN CALL.

But first let me tell you about the group in facebook that help us very much. The ON HOLD group is for everyone who received the e-mail I told you about in the last post. It is nice to have other people from every part of the world in the same situation that us… with the same questions and doubts… so it’s nice joining the group and get to know people who will be our colleagues while we are waiting for the Gold ๐Ÿ™‚

So.. a bunch of people started to announce their JFIP and GC…

JFIP means: Joining Formalities In Progress and it’s the status on your application portal. Before this status it’s supposed to say “Interview Completed” after your Final Interview… and change to JFIP a few days before they call you, or even in the same day.

So, when they started “raining” in the facebook group I was checking my portal everyday.

It was only at February 16th that my status changed, and I haven’t lost sight of my phone since… ๐Ÿ™‚ Gladly it didn’t took long. On the next morning: February 17th at 11.40am (Portugal time), my phone rang and i saw the 00971…. calling and my heart stopped! I took a deep breath and picked up!

There was a lady on the other side, giving me congratulations for being successful in my application, and asking me questions like: “Are you single or married?“, “Your city of departure is Lisbon, correct?“, “Are you currently employed?” and… “Are you available to join us on May 1st?

– OF COURSE I AM!! ๐Ÿ˜›

Then she explained I would received an e-mail in three days, with more information and access to the candidate portal.

And that was it!! The Date of Joining (DOJ)… me smiling.. and my mum crying.. eheheh ๐Ÿ˜›

I will back to you with more information about the portal, and the following crazy weeks!

The Recruitment Process * On Hold

Hi everyone

First of all sorry for my lack of posts… but I will keep you posted about my last weeks and of course the rest of the recruitment process. Hope you understand that these few weeks are insane preparing everything… and hope you’ll keep reading ๐Ÿ˜‰

So… about the recruitment process… as I told you before, I left the final interview, hopping being successful but I would have to wait 4 to 6 weeks to receive some feedback…meaning: or I would receive the Golden Call or an unsuccessful e-mail… Final Interview as you know, was on a winter Tuesday, 16th of December. So I would have to wait till mid of January at least!
I came back to my hometown: Porto ๐Ÿ˜€ and tried not to think about it… tried! ๐Ÿ˜›

At the time I was without a job… my architecture internship already ended as I mentioned before. But it was a good thing, because my mum had knee surgery, so I could take care of her… and do all domestic tasks for her…! Also, Christmas was coming… and I LOVE Christmas… there was a lot to do…and the days passed…

Christmas came and went… and the new year’s eve was on the corner! ๐Ÿ˜‰

31st December 2014
I woke up and, as usually I checked my e-mail (like every other morning) half asleep, half awake.. and jumped of my bed… yelling “yes!yes!yes!” ๐Ÿ˜€
I heard my mum said “She is crazy or what? What is happening today with her?!” (I’m not a very morning person ๐Ÿ˜› )
My dad came to my room laughing of me and asking “are you OK?
And I said “I’m great! I’m going to Dubai!

I had an e-mail from the airline:
“(…)I’m pleased to advise you that your application has been successful. However, we are awaiting approval for additional training courses dates before we can send you a formal offer of employment. Courses are fully booked until the mid of February 2015 (…)

This is the On Hold e-mail. I was in!! I couldn’t believe…. new year, new life!
Feedback came earlier than I though, but now I would to really wait for the Golden Call…. and until mid of February I wasn’t expecting any news!
Meanwhile… I received a call from one previous job, asking if I could substitute a colleague. I became friends of the girls who worked on that store I worked before leaving for ERASMUS. So, we kept in touch and they knew of my interviews in Lisbon. Anyway…they wanted me to work with them..even if it was only for a couple of months.

I accepted. I loved work with them in the past… I would love this time as well. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Plus… selling handbags from DKNY, MK, LOVE MOSCHINO among others… It’s a job I like very much! ๐Ÿ˜€

It was a good thing for me… the work occupied my head and I could get some extra money to help prepare everything!

That’s why I didn’t post very often, because I was working! I’m still here updating you, and I plan keep going ๐Ÿ˜‰ My next post will be about the Golden Call… And I will write about it before I move to Dubai… in four days! ๐Ÿ˜€

The Recruitment Process * Final Interview

Tuesday, December 16th 2014

Smells like Christmas… my favorite holiday! It’s 8:30am and I think I was dreaming with Christmas trees and wrapping paper!

But I’m in Lisbon, in a home that’s not mine and with a very important morning ahead! It’s time to stand by all Christmas stuff and get ready for my one-to-one Final Interview! It was schedule for 11am, so I ate my breakfast… dressed up, put on my makeup and my hair in a ponytail again. Everything was very formal, veryย businessย attired.

I arrived at the hotel early. Around 10:30am. I made my appointment for 11:00am because at 12am I could start getting hungry and that could affect the interview for me… and 10 o’clock: first interview of the day for the recruiter… I don’t know… seemed to early. There is a Portuguese saying: “No meio estรก a virtude”, that means “the virtue it’s in the middle” ๐Ÿ˜‰ So… 11am seemed perfect. Not to early… me and the recruiter waken, and without hungry.. no need to rush the interview… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Around 10.50am the 10 o’clock girl went out and the recruiter asked me to wait a couple of minutes. So I talked a little with the other girl and at 11 o’clock I was already inside the room.

The recruiter: the fun woman from AD. She was very nice.. offered me water and cookies, said a couple of jokes.. to let me comfortable, and asked me for my documents. While she was checking all the paperwork, I took the opportunity to try one cookie eheheย Me and the food! ๐Ÿ˜›
All the paperwork was checkย and so we started with the interview. It seemed more a conversation really. The recruiter was great, pleasant and very calm. She took one of my previous work experience as sales assistant and asked me questions like:

Tell me a time when you had to bend the rules for a client.”

Do you ever proposed new ideas to your superiors to improve something in the store or on the sales?”

Give me an example when you had to deal with a colleague who was jeopardizeย the team work or even your personal work.”ย and ย “how you deal with that?”

Do you ever had a difficult client, complaining on everything? How you deal with it?”

How was your relationship with your colleagues?” “Give me an example of that

How was your relationship with your superiors?” “Tell me an experience.”

Than she asked me about my ERASMUS programme. If I had any contact with different cultures and how it was for me.
I also did a Interrail – 22 days in Europe by train ๐Ÿ˜€ And she asked me about that as well…!

I think my eyes wereย shinning when I was talking about my travel Erasmus/Interrailย adventures, because she said “I can see that these experiences let you very happy“… “You have no idea” I replied ๐Ÿ˜‰ And it’s true… it was the time of my life… ๐Ÿ™‚ (Maybe I’ll post about it later!)

And it was all… Like I said, it was more a conversation about my experience… The recruiter let me know that I would receive some feedback in 4 to 6 weeks…

The interview finished around 11.55am and while the recruiter prepared the room for the next candidate I talked with the girl in the waiting room and tried to keep her calm… ๐Ÿ˜‰ Then she went for the interview room and I went home… lunch!! ๐Ÿ˜€

I changed clothes, had lunch one last time with my friends, took my stuff and went to the train station to come back to my real home… Porto! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you enjoyed, and this helps you for your interview.

If you have any doubts please don’t hesitate and leave a comment bellow… !

Ready for the waiting game…
